ATI SB600 Series - Reviews

    ExtremeTech
“The chipset also supports high-definition audio (HDA), compatible with Intel's Azalia specification and implemented in Windows Vista as the Unified Audio Architecture. This includes support for 192KHz sample rates, 32 bits of audio resolution, 64-bit address support and 16 channels of audio output per stream.”

    The Register
“The SB600 hooks up to ATI's Xpress 3200 (AMD 580X), 1600 (AMD 480X) and 1100 (ATI Radeon™ Xpress 1100) North Bridge chips. It can support up to four 1.5Gbps or 3Gbps Serial ATA drives which can be configured in RAID 0, 1 or 10 modes. A single parallal ATA channel is included for Ultra DMA 33/66/100/133 peripherals.”

    Bit-Tech
“ATI's new southbridge will be integrated on many new boards containing the updated AM2 version of the Xpress 3200 chipset, aka RD580 (AMD 580X).”

    Digit-Life
“The SB600 works in cooperation with Northbridges, including Xpress 3200 (AMD 580X), 1600 (AMD 480X) and 1100 (ATI Radeon™ Xpress 1100). It supports 4 x Serial ATA/Serial ATA2 drives and RAID 0, 1, 10 as well as 2 x Ultra DMA 33/66/100/133 devices. Also supported are Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI).”

    The Tech Report
“There's more to the (ATI) SB600 than just performance improvements, though. ATI has also added features, including support for 300 MB/s Serial ATA transfer rates and Native Command Queuing to the chip's SATA controller. That controller's RAID capabilities have also been bolstered, with ATI adding support for four-drive RAID 10 arrays to complement RAID 0 and RAID 1.” (Tech Report)
